ROLL up for the most raucous and risky circus in the business.

The Circus of Horrors has announced that it is bringing its new show, Voodoo, to the Parr Hall on March 21.

After taking to the road more than 22 years ago and touring all over the world, the infamous circus troupe has made a name for itself mixing extreme stunts, horror, burlesque, theatre and rock and roll.

It is often described as if Quentin Tarantino had directed Cirque Du Soleil.

The latest production, which is promised to be the circus’s biggest of the last few years, imagines the aftermath of a voodoo curse that has been awoken by a ouija board.

The Circus of Horrors was unleashed on to the world at Glastonbury Festival in 1995.

Since then the act has become the first circus to appear in the West End in 100 years, the first British circus to perform in Russia and Dr Haze and his troupe even got through to the Britain’s Got Talent finals in 2011.

Among the most popular acts is Hannibal Hellmurto, a former tax inspector who is now one of only 80 sword swallowers in the world. The circus also includes Captain Dan, the ‘demon dwarf’ and the Guinness World Record holding ‘Hairculian Diva’ who swings from her hair.

Dr Haze, who co-founded the circus, said that he gets contacted by weird and wonderful performers every week but most have to be turned away.

He told Weekend last year: “We’re always looking for new blood and usually they find me.

“It’s the age old adage of running away to join the circus. A lot of circus performers who work in other circuses all over the world consider the Circus of Horrors a very cool show to be in.

“That’s because it’s not like other circuses. There’s rock music and the audiences are going wild like they would in a rock gig. Most of the time they aren’t suitable but every so often they are.”

Rebecca Mundy, from Parr Hall, said: “This new show features bizarre and amazing circus acts from all over the world, some never seen before in the UK, all performed to devil-driven rock and roll and interwoven with the darkest of magic.

“Voodoo promises to be the biggest revolution of the Circus of Horrors for many years, a spectacular event which takes the show to a whole new level.”
