THE Museum of Science and Industry will be telling the story of the history of gaming while giving fans the chance to play the latest releases later this month.

Power Up returns to Manchester from August 11 to 28 when there will be more than 160 consoles to get hands-on with.

There will be the latest titles to try out like Bandai Namco’s Tekken 7 and Nintendo’s Splatoon 2.

But the exhibition/convention will also feature some of the earliest programmable computers and classic 80s educational games to show how far and fast gaming culture has developed in the past 40 years.

Get ready to button mash because classics like Metal Slug, Frogger and Street Fighter will be playable on special bar top arcade machines too.

If multiplayer is more your thing you can get racing on Mario Kart 8 or relive the N64 days on Goldeneye.

Alternatively you can have a glimpse of where games might be heading in the near future with numerous virtual reality experiences.

The organisers want the event to appeal the whole spectrum of gamers.

So families can drop in during the daytime for a 90-minute session while seasoned gamers might opt for a full day pass.

There will also be evening sessions for adults only featuring a DJ, bar and food, on Friday, 18 August, and Friday, 25 August.
