CATCH David O’Doherty while you can during his latest tour.

The Irish bobble-hatted funnyman announced, in a Kanye West-style rant, at the end of his Big Time show in Liverpool it was the last time he would be playing theatres the size of the Epstein.

Next year, he bragged, he would be playing the big arenas.

Armed with a 1986 keyboard, the Aldi Bublé had the audience chortling from start to finish with his collection of songs mocking Instagrammers love for avocados and rhyming celebrity names with mundane acts. (Bradley Cooper with a pooper scooper and Ruud Gullit cleaning out his Nutribullet were particular faves).

But his act is more than just comedy ditties as he went on to tell fans about the time he became a ‘social media influencer’ after Ed Sheeran replied to tweets grassing up the Fringe favourite for ‘checking’ the singer’s mic ahead of a gig in Dublin.

And what does he do with his newfound Twitter fame as thousands of besotted Sheeran fans pounce on every tweet?

Decide to promote something that’s completely brandless - birthday candles that go out and then light again.

It may take a bit of time yet for the Ryanair Enya to be a David so well-known he can drop his surname, as he said he hoped.

But this tour must take him one step closer to being the funniest man with a keyboard. (And yes I’m even counting Ross from Friends in that.)

David O’Doherty returns to the Epstein Theatre in Liverpool on February 21.
