A WARRINGTON Collegiate pupil could be the next Nick Grimshaw or Chris Evans after winning a Student Radio Award.

Daniel Miller, who is studying interactive multimedia, picked up the bronze award in the Best Newcomer category, supported by the British Council.

The glittering ceremony was held at Indigo O2 Arena with Radio 1's breakfast show DJ Nick Grimshaw and Global's Dave Berry presenting the accolades.

Daniel, from Orford, was instrumental in helping Warrington Collegiate set up W.A.C Radio in April covering news, current affairs, music and entertainment.

The first record played was #Selfie by The Chainsmokers.

Daniel, aged 22, was trained by the Student Radio Association at Media City and also came up with the station's name and logo. He hopes to pursue a job in the industry after finishing his course.

"I'm over the moon," said Daniel, who was accompanied by fellow student 18-year-old Matthew Hubble, from Padgate.

"As the only college student in a category dominated by universities this is fantastic achievement. I’ve had a wonderful time, networking with the great and the good from student radio in the UK. This is where my future lies.”

The annual Student Radio Awards is championed by BBC Radio 1 and Global and this year the theme was ‘Superheroes of Student Radio’.
