A EVENING of song to remember our fallen heroes has been given a cash boost.

Warrington Male Voice Choir will be hosting the Festival of Remembrance on Saturday, November 1, at Parr Hall to raise funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.

The concert will mark the centenary of the First World War and remember and honour those who lost their lives as well as in other conflicts since.

To help with the staging costs, Warrington Borough Council and Westbrook metal recycling firm EMR have both donated £500.

Bob Williams, chairman of Warrington Male Voice Choir, said: “Both the choir and Royal British Legion are very grateful for the financial support we’ve received from EMR and the council.

"We are determined in this centenary year, and with the help of a large audience on the night, including the Mayor of Warrington Clr Ted Finnegan, to raise as much money as we can for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal and the choir’s 2014 charity, Fisher House.

"These contributions will help offset some of our staging costs."

The evening will feature songs from the First World War performed by Warrington Male Voice Choir, The Combined Bands of The Lancashire Artillery Band and The Band of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment.

There will also be a reading from the choir’s patron, Terry Waite and a service of remembrance led by The Rev Stephen Kingsnorth.

Tickets are £10 (under 16s £5). Visit pyramidparrhall.com or call 442345.
