COLOURFUL celebration of Warrington’s different cultures and communities will take place in the town centre on Sunday, August 10.

Queens Gardens will be awash with dancers, singers and Bollywood music from 11am to 5pm.

Warrington’s Mela brings people together from all cultures including the town’s Russian, Polish and Chinese communities.

Melas are traditionally an0 Asian celebration but WECA (Warrington Ethnic Communities Association) decided to break away from the norm and instead celebrate the town’s diversity.

Expect bhangra music, traditional Polish and Russian dancing, a tabla performance and Bollywood music in an open air concert environment.

There will also be the opportunity to sample cuisine from around the world and plenty to keep the kids occupied with fairground rides, a bouncy castle and more.

Gemma Johnson, cultural director of Culture Warrington, said: “Culture Warrington is, once again, pleased to be working with WECA on Mela which brings together a diverse range of communities across the town.

“Mela, which is now in its fourth year, promises to be a celebration of culture in Warrington”.

Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, community and culture, added: “This Mela is a wonderful, colourful celebration of Warrington’s different cultures and communities and has become a regular feature in the town’s event calendar.

“It’s going to be a great event and so I would encourage everyone to come along and join in.”

The event is organised by WECA with the help from Culture Warrington, Warrington Borough Council, Golden Gates Housing Trust, Cheshire Police, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Warrington Voluntary Action.
