IT promises to be a roaring success when the show takes to the stage at the Liverpool Empire theatre later this year.

But, ahead of Disney’s record-breaking tour of The Lion King, which arrives in the city in May, three members of the cast dropped by to give a lucky few a sneak peek into what the touring production has in store for its audiences.

Behind the majestic and mesmerising musical is Gugwana Dlamini as Rafiki, Nicholas Nkuna as Simba and Ava Brennan as Nala who performed some of show’s greatest hits to the 100-strong audience.

Powerful and poignant - the performances were a spectacle to behold and the privileged few were transported to the Serengeti planes and the homeland of The Lion King.

The internationally renowned show has already been forced to add extra dates due to an overwhelming demand for the musical, which will play a seven week stint in Liverpool, kicking off on May 15.

And with a cast comprising of 52 performers from 18 different countries and a fleet of 23 trucks carrying the set and props, the unmissable show is arguably one of the largest theatre productions to ever tour around Europe.

With hundreds of masks, puppets and more than 700 elaborate costumes, Julie Taymor’s stage adaption of Disney’s 1994 animated film looks set to transfix it audience if the exclusive preview is anything to go by.

The multi-award winning show tells the tale of young lion cub Simba as he journeys through life on an exciting adventure to take up his destined role as King of the Pridelands.

The show’s storyline is a favourite of many but the colourful spectacle takes the childhood classic to a new realm that can be appreciated and enjoyed by all the family - almost as if you are seeing and hearing it for the first time.

The timeless story line, the beloved characters and eccentric costumes will enthral audiences.

The Lion King is at the Liverpool Empire from May 15 to July 5.
