CELEBRATIONS were in full swing at Great Sankey High School with 65 per cent of students achieving five or more A* to C grades.
A total 55 per cent of pupils gained five or more A* to C grades including English and maths.
But executive head teacher Alan Davies said changes to exams have affected some pupils’ grades.
He said: “Unfortunately changes to the GCSE exam system have impacted on some of our students who do not suit linear exams and who under the old system would have performed much better.
“However, we do have some real achievements to celebrate. Over 50 per cent of our students achieved at least one top grade pass of A or A* with one third of our students achieving three top grades of A or A*.”
Head teacher Paula Crawley added: “We were hoping to buck the national trend and in some cases we have.
“More than 40 per cent of our students made greater than expected progress in English and 35 per cent made greater than expected progress in maths.”
