A LABOUR rally – featuring Jeremy Corbyn on a live video link – was held at the Parr Hall last night, Tuesday.

More than 250 supporters attended the event at the venue, on Palmyra Square South, ahead of Thursday's General Election.

Leader Mr Corbyn appeared on a video link from a campaign event in Birmingham where he was delivering a speech.

The rally also featured sets from Reverend and the Makers and DJ Patrick Topping, as well as speeches from actress Maxine Peake and shadow business secretary Rebecca Long-Bailey.

Ms Peake said: "It has been amazing to see so many young people here this evening.

"You can really see the demographic of the Labour Party's supporters changing.

"Tonight you can see how the momentum has gathered and how many people are getting behind the party."

The 42-year-old believes Theresa May and the Tories are 'running scared'.

She added: "They are absolutely petrified because they know they have been sussed out.

"Get out and vote for Faisal and get the Labour Party in.

"We need the NHS, we need social housing, we need a future for our young children – Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour Party will provide that."

Reverend and the Makers felt 'honoured' after Mr Corbyn asked them to perform at the event via Twitter.

Frontman Jon McClure believes the Islington North candidate is the right man to get the keys to Number 10.

The 35-year-old said: "Prior to Jeremy Corbyn, I handed my Labour membership in during the Iraq War.

"But I came back when he started getting involved – I love him and feel like I have the Labour Party back.

"Me and my entire family love him, they are all nurses and passionately believe in the NHS.

"At Tranmere I introduced him on stage with 20,000 people singing 'oh Jeremy Corbyn' – I've never seen anything like it.

"It is not the death row of something if we lose – it is the beginning of something.

"They are building something here, whether it bears fruit on Thursday, or in five years time, let's carry on.

"Look carefully at what Jeremy Corbyn and Theresa May are proposing.

"We are facing an unprecedented threat from terrorism, she is cutting police numbers.

"The NHS is facing a humanitarian crisis according to the Red Cross, she is cutting funding."

Warrington South's Labour candidate Cllr Faisal Rashid was also in attendance.

He said: "It is time for change, a positive change.

"I live in Warrington and have shown what I can do – all I need is a chance."

Echoes of 'oh Jeremy Corbyn' were ringing around the Parr Hall after the politician said 'we have a Government that doesn't care' and 'this election gives us an opportunity to change the political direction of our country'.

Labour's Warrington North candidate Helen Jones did not attend.

A source confirmed she was 'continuing with her campaign' while the event took place.
