MOTORISTS travelling on the M6 at Thelwall Viaduct are facing long delays after a Tory 'ad van' overturned.

All lanes were briefly closed while emergency services made their way to the scene on the M6 northbound between Lymm and Woolston.

Lane one has reopened but lanes two, three and four remain closed.

A 30 mph speed limit was put in place.

Highways England has also been notified of a fuel spillage at the scene.

North West Ambulance Service attended the scene.

A spokesman for the service said there were no injuries.

A Tory spokesman confirmed that the overturned vehicle is a Tory ‘ad van’.

Material on it reads: “For the best Brexit deal vote Conservative on 8th June.”

A party spokesman said: “We hope that nobody has been injured.”

Warrington South’s Labour candidate Cllr Faisal Rashid also commented.

He said: “It was sad to hear it overturned – I hope that everyone is safe.”

After becoming aware there were no injuries, Cllr Rashid (LAB – Chapelford and Old Hall) added: “It seems as though the fate of this wagon is telling us all something!

“Clearly it is neither strong nor stable and is a symbol of Theresa May and the Tories' weak and wobbly campaign.

“The Tories have misjudged the feelings of the British people and with this wagon, David Mowat and the Tories have chosen a shambolic way to get across an unreliable and flimsy message.

"What it says isn't even true: Sir Keir Starmer QC is of course Labour's shadow secretary of state for exiting the European Union and is very well qualified to take the lead on the Brexit negotiations so they've got their facts wrong too."

A Tory ‘ad van’ made its way to the Warrington Guardian’s office last Thursday.

The party spokesman was unable to confirm whether it was the same vehicle.
