LESS than 48 hours remain until the country goes to the polls – but do you know who you will be voting for?

Ahead of Thursday's General Election, each of the Warrington South parliamentary candidates have issued a statement to tell you why they should be given a seat in Parliament.

David Mowat will be defending a 2,750 majority in the constituency.

Conservative David Mowat

"There are two reasons to vote Conservative on Thursday.

"Firstly, I have a good track record of campaigning for and delivering projects in Warrington.

"Whether it’s helping people back in to work, apprenticeships to help young people succeed, new bridges to ease chronic congestion problems or getting the Arpley Landfill site closed, I’ve led campaigns locally which have delivered real results and improved lives for people in the borough.

"Secondly, Warrington South is a very close contest.

"How people vote here will determine who will form the next Government.

"Brexit negotiations begin just 11 days after polling day.

"There’s a growing threat from the fanatics of Isis and, of course, we need to continue to have a strong economy,  creating the wealth to fund our public services.

"Either Theresa May or Jeremy Corbyn will be Prime Minister on June 8.

"Voters in Warrington South get to decide which of these it will be."

Labour's Cllr Faisal Rashid

"This election is about who you want to be your MP.

"The choice is between Labour or Tory.

"Under the Tories the rich get richer, more children are in poverty, our NHS is at breaking point, schools are massively under-funded, and social care is in crisis.

"Tory promises on the deficit, immigration, public services, sharing the austerity burden and not increasing tax have all been broken.

"If re-elected they will botch the Brexit negotiations.

"The Tory candidate for Warrington South has broken previous election promises of toll-free travel for Warrington residents over Halton bridges and to live in the constituency.

"Throughout this election Labour has been straight with you.

"We will do things differently bringing positive change to achieve a world class NHS, fairly funded education, free university tuition, more police and strengthened national security, environmental protection, fairness for pensioners, improved animal welfare and a Brexit deal that enhances our economy and works for everyone."

Liberal Democrat Cllr Bob Barr

"This election offers Warrington South voters the positive choice of an MP who has lived in the town for 35 years, who understands what makes the town tick and has a record of delivering for its residents.

"He represents a party that is determined to invest in the NHS and our schools, build the right houses in the right places and trust the people, not the politicians, to have the final say on any negotiated Brexit deal.

"He knows that good relations with our European neighbours are essential for the town’s businesses particularly those specialising in science, technology and engineering.

"Warrington needs an MP who will fight for, fair funding for our schools, action to reduce congestion and air pollution and a fair deal to ensure that the town grows sustainably.

"Make the positive choice for your voice in Westminster, elect Bob Barr as the MP for Warrington South."

Independent John Boulton

"It was made crystal clear by the people of Warrington South that they knew why the Greens and UKIP pulled out – a tactical voting ploy that was cynical politics at its finest.

"Campaigning puts you in front of voters and it became very clear, very quickly that the campaign feedback from the main parties in Warrington South was wide of the mark.

"People were looking for choice and another person standing offered that choice.

"Be reassured that you will be joining a heavy number of people on polling day voting for the advantages of an Independent MP that can work only for Warrington South and not for the vanity of a party leader.

This will be a coalition Government – Labour has already accepted that.

"An Independent in Warrington South, with its highly valuable Commons vote, will be able to demand lots of things for Warrington South in a coalition."
