A DAD-OF-FOUR has vowed to 'pressure the Government' into giving Warrington North 'a fairer share of funds' if elected as UKIP MP in the General Election.

James Ashington, 80, will be standing for UKIP in Warrington North – where the party secured just over 17 per cent of the vote in the 2015 General Election – on June 8.

Mr Ashington, who is a graduate of Nottingham University and a former businessman, lives in Lymm and is married with four children and seven grandchildren.

He secured 1,624 votes after battling for the Warrington South seat in 2010.

"UKIP is the most successful UK political party of the 21st century, having secured Britain's exit from the EU," he said.

"I would urge residents to vote for the party that is fully committed to making a clean break from the single market – that party is UKIP.

"If elected, I would devote my time to fighting for the interests of the people in Warrington North.

"In particular, I would like to see HS2 discontinued, to ensure that UK defence spending is increased, hospital car parking charges abolished, but most importantly, I would pressure the Government to give Warrington North a fairer share of funds."

A party spokesman added: "We are delighted that James is standing for us.

"He was the prospective parliamentary candidate for UKIP in 2010, so he brings a wealth of experience in campaigning.

"He’s also held positions of responsibility as a parish councillor, a school governor, and organiser of the very successful Lymm Festival."

UKIP will not be fielding a candidate in Warrington South.
