THE former chairman of UKIP Warrington will not stand in next month's General Election – and is giving his 'full backing' to Warrington North's Tory candidate.
Trevor Nicholls, who quit UKIP after resigning from his top post last year, was considering standing in Warrington North for the Demos Direct Initiative Party (DDIP) – The Collective Thinking Party of Britain, after becoming a member.
Mr Nicholls won 7,757 votes as UKIP's Warrington North candidate in the 2015 General Election.
But he confirmed he will not represent DDIP when the country goes to the polls on June 8.
He added: "I will be giving my full backing to the Conservative candidate for Warrington North."
Val Allen will be attempting to win the Warrington North seat for the Tories.
Labour's Helen Jones had an 8,923 majority in the 2015 vote and clocked up 20 years as the constituency's MP on May 1.
