STAFF and students from the University of Chester’s Padgate campus who lent their support to the 2013 World Cup bid are celebrating after the town was confirmed as a host.

The Crab Lane campus, which is home to Warrington Wolves training centre, will also be used as a training ground during the competition.

Students from the university have also played a role in developing the advertising campaign which helped lead the town to success.

It was confirmed last Monday that The Halliwell Jones Stadium would stage two matches in the prestigious event.

Kate Sillitoe, senior lecturer in visual communication and digital media, said: “Students and staff worked on producing both an advertising campaign, which included posters displayed on bus shelters and trains, and a video to promote the town’s bid.

“They followed a brief looking at the people, place and promise and came up with some fantastic ideas.

“We’re really pleased if we HAve been able to play a part in this success.”

Professor Peter Harrop, pro vice chancellor and provost at the Warrington campus, said: “This is a significant achievement for the town and the university is proud to play its role in supporting this event.”
