A NEW community resource centre in Birchwood is giving people with autism a new lease of life.

Ingot House in Kelvin Close makes unique services to develop the competence and confidence of each individual.

Many have discovered hidden skills as they learn how to cook, make cards, swim, grow plants, take pictures, paint, act and create pottery and crafts.

Their items will be on sale at the Disability Awareness Day in Walton Gardens on Sunday.

It is hoped that a cafe and shop could be launched as the community hub grows.

Manager Chris Rowles said: “This is a new service. We want to make it a big part of the community.

“We are working with local companies and the council.

“It has already made a big difference to the lives of people with autism.”

Run by the charity Autism Initiatives, the centre teaches everyday life skills.
