THE latest stage in the transformation of a Lymm community centre has been completed.
Fundraisers, committee members and volunteers at Oughtrington Community Centre, on Sandy Lane, came together earlier this month for a celebration to mark the completion of work on the new roof.
The project, the latest in a line of improvements to transform the Victorian building, was finished earlier in the year.
Among the guests at the celebration was the Oughtrington Luncheon Club – one of the centre’s regular users. The day was completed with a ringing of the old school bell which was also added to the building as part of the works.
The former school building, which dates back to the 19th century, fell into disrepair when the new school was built on Howard Avenue.
It then opened in the 1980s as a community centre before the biggest change in 2000 when the whole building was earmarked for replacement and renovations.
Hundreds of thousands of pounds were raised to fund the work and fundraisers have not finished yet.
Next they are attempting to secure more money to complete the fitting out of the two upstairs rooms in the new extension.
