Staff put out fire after man throws flaming missile into shop

A MAN attacked a post office on Thursday lunchtime throwing a burning object inside in an apparent arson attack.

Detectives were called to the post office in Glover Road, Locking Stumps, at around 1.20pm.

The post office was open when the attacker opened the door and threw a lit object inside.

He then ran off.

The offender is described as a white man, around 5ft 5in to 6ft tall, of slim to medium build and was wearing dark clothing.

DC Stephen Page said: “Fortunately, no-one was injured as a result of the incident but staff were left shaken by the ordeal.

“They managed to extinguish the small fire which did not cause serious damage to the premises.

“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have seen the offender, either before the incident took place, or following the attack, to get in touch immediately. We are also keen to hear from anyone who knows the identity of the offender.”
