WARRINGTON Wolves stars Michael Monaghan and Matt King paid a special visit to Warrington Hospital to see loyal fan Marion Hamblett, who was brought up in Houghton Green.

Friends and family of Marion, who has recently been diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer, said she could not speak at first before she got chatting to her ‘knights in shining armour’.

Karl Fitzpatrick, Wolves’ player welfare officer, said: “The amount of e-mails and letters I have received this year to thank the club and the players for visiting a sick child, an elderly person or a community project has been quite remarkable.

“Visiting Marion is another fine example of how the players like to integrate with the supporters and speaking to Mick and Matt I think they enjoyed it just as much as Marion.

“On behalf of the players and staff we wish Marion and her family all the best for the future.”

Marion, aged 72, watched her first game in 1950 and had the visit arranged by her family who are all keen supporters.

A family spokesman said: “An overwhelming thank you must go to everyone involved in arranging the visit with the biggest thank you going to the players for their time.

“When her knights in shining armour walked round the corner Marion smiled in surprise and couldn’t speak for a few moments but within minutes she was in full swing discussing everything and anything that was Warrington related.”
