Poulton North residents say maintenance work continuing beyond permitted hours
10:20am Friday 7th October 2011 in Fearnhead
A ROW has started in Poulton North with residents claiming that maintenance work is continuing beyond permitted hours.
Work to resurface Green Lane and Blackbrook Avenue began last month with both roads closed between 9.15am and 3.15pm.
But neighbours say parts of both roads are sometimes closed before 9am and stay shut until 3.50pm, causing disruption to homeowners.
Peter Trengove, of Cynthia Avenue, Woolston, said he has witnessed sections of Green Lane blocked outside the permitted hours.
He has since complained to Warrington Borough Council.
“These guys have already been told the times they are to close the road for work, yet they still think they can do what they want and inconvenience council taxpayers,” he said.
The council said that there had only been one incident of maintenance continuing past 3.15pm, when materials were being delivered.
David Boyer, assistant director for transport, engineering and operations at the council, said: “Working hours have been restricted as signs in the area reflect, to allow peak time traffic to continue unaffected.
“Unfortunately, a road scheme of this size and complexity will inevitably have an impact on the daily patterns of residents and we apologise for any inconvenience.
“However, the work is necessary to improve the condition of the roads.
“The scheme is currently slightly ahead of schedule and every effort is being made to complete the works as soon as possible.”
