A view from the pew

A BURTONWOOD man who has written 250 articles for a parish magazine has compiled a book that will help raise funds for other churches.

Clive Stannard, of Cronulla Drive, has contributed to the St Michael and All Angels Church pamphlet since 1990.

He said: “The general intention was to provide something light-hearted and interesting, a diversion from the more serious stuff in the vicar’s letter, reports and prayers that populate parish magazines.”

Topics the 77-year-old has broached over the years include his life in the Royal Navy, holidays he has taken and current affairs that interest him.

The pieces are non-religious and have no biblical references.

Cllive’s musings received a warm welcome from St Michael’s parishioners and it was some years ago that the Burtonwood Art Show founder toyed with the idea of collecting some of the articles and producing a book.

The result was View From The Pew and Clive added: “I’m very excited to say the least. I’m pleased to be a published author.”

Clive intends to sell his book to various churches at cost plus £1 where they can be sold on for the cover price of £9.95 so those congregations may benefit from the money raised.

The book’s launch takes place tonight, Thursday, from 7.30pm at St Michael’s church hall with refreshments and a free drink.
