ACE BEACON STATUS: TOP tennis action means Birchwood Leisure and Tennis Complex has won a prestigious award.

The centre was given beacon status earlier this month by LTA President Peter Bretherton who was in town to present a plaque to Clr Kate Hannon, executive board member for leisure, culture and community services.

To become a Beacon site, facilities must offer access to inclusive tennis, plus quality, affordable coaching and regular competitions for all ages and abilities.

The courts at the complex on Benson Road have recently been refurbished to allow play all year round for all members of the community.
