Mum-of-three Dina Baird graduated from Liverpool University with a Genetics Honours degree, and taught secondary science and A level biology and psychology in Warrington for five years.
Dina has always been interested in ecology and feels passionately about our responsibility towards sustaining and enjoying our environment.
As well as looking after her four, six and eight-year-old children, Dina is a campaigner for Friends of the Earth,
and an OCR exam board examiner for A level biology.
I first realised the environmental impact of plastic bags a few years ago while on holiday in the Lake District. A beautiful swan was on the water desperately trying to swallow a plastic bag. Onlookers were horrified and a group rallied with sticks and branches to try and hook it away.Fortunately it worked but it did change the way I viewed disposable bags from then on.
It has now been a month since I decided to give up my car. It has rainedand rainedblown a gale and recently been quite nippy! Nevertheless I have no regrets. The children have got used to the idea of getting ready a bit quicker in the morning and we no longer have to negotiate walking to school, they don't have a choice which isn't a bad thing, and as my seven year old son said last week "isn't it fun cycling in hail!"
Wow-it's that time of year again! New Year! New beginnings and new resolutions to make - and keep? I have just heard that women make more resolutions than men but it's the men who are more likely to stick it out and succeed! I like a challenge so am happy to throw down the gauntlet, but what is it to be this year? Obviously something green!
I couldn't put it off any longer -I was starting to resemble Captain Caveman -yes a trip to the hairdressers required .I am however a reluctant visitor to any salon since a rather dodgy perm in 1986 - I was tempted to trim it myself with a pair of scissors and some masking tape as a guide (it worked fairly well last time!) but decided to book myself in instead.
