Points of view

  • Can you help with details?

I AM compiling a roll of honour for the 161 members and attached personnel of the 11th Hussars (PAO) 1939-1945 who never returned and am trying to trace descendants and relatives of trooper Jack Walker, 3392108 of the C Squadron, 11th Hussars (Prince Albert's Own) Royal Armoured Corps, who died on October 22 1943, aged 27. read more

  • Article was misleading

I BELIEVE that the article printed in the Warrington Guardian on flooding risks to homes in Warrington, which placed the town seventh in the country most likely to be flooded, was quite misleading as it did not mention the Manchester Ship Canal effect, which acts as a safety sluice for most of Warrington. read more

  • My faith has been restored

I WRITE this letter in the hope that whoever found my driving licence somewhere in Warrington and posted it back to me in Bedford is reading this. read more

  • Councillors are failing us

COUNCILLORS Marks and Bland, featured in the article Row rumbles on, publiched in the Warrington Guardian, October 13, are the ones who are failing the people of Warrington - and not Helen Jones MP - for ignoring the blatant incompetence of senior council officers. Any first year journalism or law student knows that: a) Parliamentary privilege protects MPs from being sued for defamation, and that; b) councils cannot sue for defamation whatever the circumstances. read more

  • What are you thinking of?

FURTHER to the article in the Warrington Guardian regarding the new Indian restaurant planned in Liverpool Road, what is the planning committee thinking of? read more

  • News made my heart sink

READING that Mr Smith's is to re-eopen made my heart sink. read more

  • Thank you for your kindness

I WISH to express my thanks to a young couple who came to my aid when I fell when walking with my daughter's dogs on Manchester Road, Woolston on Saturday November 3. read more

  • In UK, Islam is tolerated

I BEG to differ from Honeybee's point of view. read more

  • Parkside is an opportunity

COULD it be that Parkside really is so unpopular? Could it be so wrong for the economy of the north west, and could it really be that house prices will fall by 20 per cent? read more

  • Message from St Rocco's

MANY thanks again to Warrington Lions for arranging an early visit from Santa Claus to the late night opening of St Rocco's Hospice Shop in Longford Street. As usual the evening was a great success with a fantastic turnout. read more

  • Parking needs overhaul

I READ the letters page of the Warrington Guardian regularly and have so far been surprised that there has been little mention of the appalling car parking facilities available at Winwick Street car park opposite Central Station. read more

  • Thanks to my surgeon

I WAS recently a patient at Warrington Hospital for a knee replacement operation on the Daresbury Wing, and I would like to say thank you to the surgeon, Mr Shackleford, all the nursing staff and everyone involved in the wonderful care and attention I received. read more

  • Liverpool takes over

IN reply to the letter from Stephen Illingworth regarding Warrington no longer being unique. read more

  • Chill out and drive

I NOTE with interest that two articles in last week's Warrington Guardian are pointing out that Culcheth and Lymm have drivers that speed through their villages. read more

  • Disappointed by SCBU

HAS the special care baby unit at Warrington Hospital got so much money that it cannot be bothered to collect a cheque for £700? read more

  • Contempt for Woolston

SO Warrington Borough Council's executive committee has decided to go ahead with its controversial proposals to close Woolston High School, ignoring, as usual, all the representations made to it against the closure. read more

  • Excellent service

MAY I give the doctors surgery in Thompson Avenue, Culcheth, a massive pat on the back for the excellent service it gives to the community. read more

  • Plan is not site sensitive

SADLY, a prior engagement prevented me from attending the meeting to discuss the proposed siting of a drugs rehabilitation unit within the Cultural Quarter in the centre of Warrington, as I would most certainly have joined those who objected to this ludicrous idea. read more
