ANTHONY (TONY) BERNARD FLEMING Died of neuro-endocrine carcinoma and metastatic disease on 2 April, aged 60. Tony was born in Latchford and spent some years living in Stockton Heath, but for most of his life he was away at sea and his home was in Southampton. At the age of 15 Tony joined the merchant navy and trained on the Vindicatrix. Four years later he joined the Royal Navy and later worked for BT Marine on cable laying ships. He has sailed around the world seven times. For the last five years of his life he worked in the catering industry servicing agricultural shows, weddings and fund-raising functions across the south of England. During the course of his work he met many famous and infamous people (to name just two: Madonna and Buster Edwards). Tony had many stories to tell and his family and friends loved to listen to them. Tony was well read and loved a debate. He could hold a conversation on just about any topic and was a very interesting and interested person. His thirst for knowledge was insatiable. Tony leaves a sister and brother-in-law in Warrington who he was visiting when he became ill. His illness spread quickly and he was unable to return to Southampton. He also leaves a brother and sister-in- law in Australia where he had spent many happy times and made many friends. He leaves three nieces and one nephew, all of whom he adored and who adored him in return. He will also be sadly missed by his many friends in Southampton. The service and internment were at Warrington Cemetery. Arrangements were by Knox and Son. read more
