THEY were never really a band, more a state of being.
They could, when the mood took them, chug up to some kind of funk but, more often than not, it would crumble to cacophony. They were more intelligent than they ever dared to let on and, perhaps, less streetwise than the image eternally suggested. They were, and are Happy Mondays although the founding Paul Ryder is not among the flock, having fallen foul of sibling sniping and preferring to live in a French castle that occasionally explodes into flames. read more
