OFFICIALS say a new list of events has been drawn up that will be supported - but they say they cannot include every event because of cost.
A joint police and council statement said resources do not allow it.
The statement continues: "Therefore, the list is bound to be controversial, since those whose event is not included will understandably feel let down.
"It is the negotiation of this list that has taken so much time.
"Both the police and the council are doing everything they can to support the planned events in 2006.
"For next year, the agreed list will need to come into force.
"We are trying very hard to continue supporting these important traditions within the life of Warrington, but against a background of difficult operating circumstances.
"It has been necessary to suggest some compromises if safety is to be guaranteed, and those compromises will be unwelcome. But we hope that the essential nature of the tradition will continue and we are committed to keeping everyone informed for future events."
Here is the list:
Warrington Walking Day
Civic Sunday
Regimental Sunday
St George's Day
Penketh Carnival
Birchwood Carnival
Westy Carnival
Stockton Heath Walking Day
Padgate and Woolston Walking Day
Orford Walking Day
