What a cool idea!

YOUR fridge can have a health check to mark Food Safety Week.

The free council-run service will check if the fridge is working properly and, as summer approaches, if food is being stored safely.

Ideally, fridges should operate in the range 0-5C.

The working temperature of the fridge will be measured as part of the safety check and you will be advised if you need to make any adjustments.

You will also be given a thermometer and an advice sheet.

Clr Roy Smith, executive board member for the borough council, said: "Food safety is very important in terms of our health and wellbeing and the council is committed to promoting safer and healthier communities.

"Food that is stored at the wrong temperatures, or inappropriately, can lead to all sorts of problems ranging from minor bad smells to major illness.

"I would encourage people to take advantage of this free service offered by the Trading Standards Food Safety Team to help ensure they have a happy, healthy time not only this summer but the whole year round."

Anyone interested in arranging for a member of the food safety team to call out to their home for a free fridge test can call 442577 or 442592, Monday to Friday, between 9am and 5pm.

Inquiries will be taken up until June 30 and visits will be made by arrangement.
