You're the best thing that ever happened ...

THEY have worked together for nearly 30 years and are celebrating a 50-year marriage union but little has changed for Nora and Tony Greenwood.

As the happy couple mark their golden wedding anniversary tomorrow, Friday, they say that they are still as in love as the day they met, which is 57 years ago.

The couple, from Lowton, spent 29 years running pubs in Warrington including the Wheatsheaf (now the Original Wire) in Orford, The Plough in Croft and The Red Lion in Lowton.

Nora, aged 72, hails from Great Sankey while her husband Tony Greenwood, aged 73, is from Penketh.

They were childhood sweethearts and have been together since they were 15 after meeting in the village. Mr Greenwood's uncle is former mayor of Warrington, Henry Greenwood.

Aside from her duties behind the bar, Mrs Greenwood also served for more than 20 years as a town magistrate and brought up their two sons Howard and Martin.

Mrs Greenwood said: "We were very compatible at work, we always put that first. It must have been love when we met and I still love him now. He is the best thing that ever happened to me."
