Sprinters on song

PETER Morgan and Luke Miller-Briggs were in impressive form for a depleted Warrington Athletics Club team in the North of England Senior League at Bebbington on Saturday.

Morgan snatched victory in the 200 metre A race in a personal best time after three athletes dived at the line together.

Miller-Briggs won the B race in a personal best time that was only a tenth of a second slower than Morgan's finish.

Morgan finished in second place in the 100m A race in a personal best time, equalled by Miller-Briggs when he won the B race.

They helped Warrington to finish in sixth place on the day, slipping from third to fourth position in the league.

Warrington Athletics Club's youngsters shone in the George Edwards Memorial Meeting staged at Victoria Park.

The star of the show was nine-year-old Liam Burthem, who recorded a treble victory in the under 11s age group.

He won the 75m, 150m and 600m races in personal best times.

Double victories were achieved by Abigail Hickey in the under nines girls' 75m and 150m, Rebecca Harrison-Pitt in the under 11s girls' 75m and 150m, Jack Payne in the under nines boys' 75m and 150m, and Ben Simpson in the under 17s boys' 100m and 200m.
