Police to crack down on booze-fuelled World Cup violence in town's homes

CHESHIRE Police are launching a crackdown on domestic violence to support victims and lock up persistent offenders.

From June 9, police in Vale Royal will support a five-week domestic violence enforcement campaign that will see specially trained officers on hand at key times to help victims when reports of domestic-related incidents are made.

The initiative comes as the country braces itself for World Cup fever as research shows that when large-scale celebratory events take place, the alcohol often flows freely and domestic violence incidents can increase.

During the campaign, officers will deal with incidents of domestic violence from the initial call for help to obtaining evidence and working with appropriate partners to support the victim and bring offenders before the courts.

The aim of the campaign is to reduce repeat victimisation, increase the number of arrests for domestic assault and bring to justice people responsible for committing domestic crimes.
