Peter praised for foiling cash machine criminals

GOOD citizen Peter Kettle has been praised by police for exposing a cash card scam that could have cost the public thousands of pounds.

Peter alerted police to a skimming operation that was put in place on a cash machine at Sainsbury's supermarket in Nantwich.

A false front panel came loose as he was using the machine, and despite the attentions of two men who tried to confront him, he carried the panel into the shop.

Thanks to his action the skimming was stopped and police had another example of the equipment criminals are using to copy credit and debit cards.

Insp Chris Brierley, commander of Nantwich Neighbourhood Policing Unit, said: "He stayed very calm and determined in a situation which would have panicked a lot of people.

"We are convinced the two men who tried to intervene were the criminals and he simply took no notice of them.

"The false front of the ATM contained skimming equipment and a miniature camera.

"His action probably prevented several people becoming victims of these criminals."
