Webby's is here for the west end

A NEW community facility was opened in the West End of Crewe at the weekend to provide a meeting place for residents.

Borough Deputy Mayor Maurice Jones opened Webby's on Frank Webb Avenue on Saturday by cutting a special ribbon representing all the partners involved in the project.

The opening ceremony was part of an afternoon of family activities at the new centre as West End residents were invited along to see what the premises have to offer and to meet the agencies that will be based there.

Activities including a bouncy castle, hog roast, street league, arts and craft sessions and face painting all helped the opening launch go with a swing.

Webby's will provide a base for Neighbourhood Action, while the Wishing Well project will be providing many of their activities from the centre every week.

The newly formed Polish Association will have an office to work from and an Internet cafe will also be accessible for all the community.

The council's community development manager Claire Wilson said she hoped that Webby's would provide a place for the community to meet, enjoy a range of activities and learn new skills.

Ward councillors Howard Curran, Maurice Jones and Roy Cartlidge welcomed the revamping and re-opening of what used to be the Our House community centre.

Cllr Cartlidge said: "Since its closure the local community has suffered.

"But now that the revamped centre is opening at the heart of the community the facilities can once again be fully used and the centre is tailor-made to help the areas social cohesion through the councils community development team."
