Babb takes on the world again

APPLETON Rifle Club's Mike Babb will again come up against the world's best shooters when he takes part in the World Cup in Milan at the weekend.

The Commonwealth gold medallist will travel to northern Italy for one of the biggest 50m rifle prone competitions of the year after finishing 17th in his last World Cup event, which took place in the German city of Munich on Friday.

Babb also finished 34th at the World Cup in Resende, Brazil, at the start of the month.

Chisnall second

CHRIS Chisnall finished second in the Formula Ford North West Championship post-1989 race at Oulton Park on Saturday.

Championship leader Neil Patten finished fourth, with Barry Linley ninth, while Ian Howard was 21st in the pre-1990 race.

In the latest round of the Ford XR Challenge, Andrew Lennie finished fourth with Chris Hamer sixth and Andy Cunningham 14th.

Pairs competition

WARRINGTON Women's Evening Bowls League's Pairs competition will take place at Orford Park on Sunday at 10.30am.

Teams in Sections C and D will play their Parks Merit games at Victoria Park on Monday at 6.30pm, with practice at 6pm and scratch at 6.45pm.

Merit matches involving teams in Sections A and B will take place at Victoria Park at the same time and venue on Wednesday.

League duel

WARRINGTON Women's Afternoon Bowls League's side will travel to Yorkshire for their annual match against Leeds on June 12.

Supporters wishing to travel by coach, leaving Alford Sports Club at 11am with a pick-up at McDonald's on Winwick Road, can contact Margaret on 224605.

Welsby Merit

STOCKTON Heath Women's Bowls Club's Welsby Merit was won by J Lathem.

She defeated I Titchard in the final, while H Bonser and E Lewis were the losing semi finalists.
