Archer off to Wales

EUROPEAN Tour golfer Phil Archer heads into the first round of the Celtic Manor Wales Open today, Thursday, after a strong finish in his last event.

The Birchwood Golf Club professional starts the four-day tournament at Celtic Manor - the south Wales resort that will host the 2010 Ryder Cup - after a round of 68 moved him up to joint 58th at the end of the BMW Championship on Sunday.

Earlier rounds of 72, 73, 79 meant Archer, who is currently 53rd in the European Order of Merit, finished on four over par at Wentworth.
