Albion's final misery

LATCHFORD Albion missed out on silverware in all three of Warrington's rugby league cup finals at Hood Lane on Saturday.

Crosfields defeated Albion 36-6 in the Carlsberg Cup Final, while Westbrook Tigers came out on top 50-10 in the Alliance Carlsberg Cup Final and Rylands Sharks won 48-0 in the NJK Computer Services Under 16s Cup Final.

Soap gained a commanding 20-2 half-time lead in the top of the bill clash.

Latchford started off brightly with Gavin Bishop slotting a penalty for a 2-0 lead.

But Latchford could not turn their early possession into further points and Crosfields made them pay in the second quarter with two tries from Matty Barber and one apiece from Dave Pennington and Fraser Linaker, with Jimmy Williams converting twice.

Latchford's former Crosfields centre Russ Parkman pulled a try back at the start of the second half but it was to be his team's last score as Crosfields picked up the pace again.

Man of the match Danny Inman's strong running caused problems for Latchford throughout and he was rewarded with two of the last three tries, sandwiching one from Phil Bannon.

Westbrook completed their first season by adding the Alliance Carlsberg Cup to their North West Counties Division Seven title success.

Tigers took control early on and produced some quality rugby, allowing backs Mark Robinson, Andy Moulsdale, Chris Ross and Mike Ross to touch down and give them a healthy lead at the turnaround.

In the second half Tigers continued to apply the pressure, resulting in two tries from Paul Wilson and further tries from man of the match Moulsdale and Ross.

Latchford showed great spirit by grabbing their second try of the game shortly before the final whistle.

The 48-0 scoreline in the under 16s final did not reflect how tough the clash was between Rylands Sharks and Latchford, who only had 14 players available.

Rylands scrum half Billy Sheen won the man of the match award.
