New housing planned in four-storey blocks

A RESIDENTIAL development featuring 86 new homes near to Crewe town centre looks set to get the green light from planning chiefs today.

The proposals include seven houses and 79 apartments on land off Dunwoody Way, for developers Haigh and Haigh Property Partners.

The land was formerly part of Crewe Railway Works and the site will front onto Dunwoody Way and Goddard Street.

A council planning spokesman said the majority of the apartments will be located in four-storey buildings.

He added: "The development fronting Dunwoody Way turns the corner at the roundabout near Morrison's supermarket and drops to three-storey and then two and a half storey development, before rising to three-storey apartments where the site adjoins the sports field to the north.

"The houses front Goddard Street but car parking will be provided at the rear of the dwellings, with all the vehicular access from Dunwoody Way.

"It is considered that the development will continue the character of the landscaped, built-up frontage to Dunwoody Way and will provide adequate parking, landscaping and open space to the rear."

The borough council's development control committee will consider the plans at a meeting this afternoon (Thursday) which will be held in Crewe's Municipal Buildings.
