Thieves snatch cash in TSB raid

MASKED robbers ambushed a security van stealing thousands of pounds on Friday.

Detectives say 'a substantial amount of money' was snatched when two raiders struck outside Lloyds TSB, on Knusford Road.

Two security men for Securicol Group 4 had arrived to load the bank's cash point when the raid happened at 7.30pm.

DS Chris Barrow, involved in the investigation, said: "The security guards are very shaken up. One was punched in the face several times.

"It was a very distressing ordeal for them."

Minutes after the raid, a black BMW 323i was discovered burnt out in Locket Street.

Two men were seen getting out of this car into a silver Ford thought to be a Focus or Mondeo, which sped off.

The robbery is the third to hit the town in 10 days.

"This was a well planned operation," added DS Barrow.

"It is concerning to have had such a high number but there is no evident to suggest they are linked."

The first offender is described as 6ft tall, and of slim build. He wore a black tracksuit and baseball cap.

The second robber was 5ft 10ins tall, of stocky build and wore dark clothing.

Both men had black tights over their heads.
