Jean is crowned wonder mum

JEAN Davies already has a bigger family than most.

Mrs Davies of Nelson Road, Birchwood, has six children of her own.

She has also cared for more than 80 other youngsters as she has been a foster mum for more than 20 years.

That's aside from taking on the role of mum to her four sisters when their parents died - one of her sisters has cerebral palsy and still lives with her more than 25 years later.

So it's no wonder then, that the 56-year-old has been crowned Birchwood's wonder mum of 2006 in a competition organised by Asda.

Nominated by three members of her family, none of whom knew the others were entering her, Mrs Davies will collect her prize from the Birchwood store tomorrow, Friday at 2pm.

Mrs Davies said: "I love fostering and still keep in touch with many of the children. I was totally shocked but also pleased to be told I was getting this."

Mrs Davies will be put forward to the regional finals of the competition in a national newspaper.
