Yellow lines could cause misery

PLANS to ban cars parking on parts of an industrial estate could cause more misery for residents.

Neighbours in Parkgate Lane already face a daily battle with congestion.

But now they fear office workers forced off Parkgate Industrial Estate will park outside their homes.

Julie Cummings, who lives nearby, said enough parking spaces should have been provided when the industrial estate was built.

She feared the problems would worsen if cars were forced away from the industrial estate.

"It's horrendous already," she said, "especially first thing in the morning. And in the evening there's a stream of traffic from five until six."

Each side of Haig Road - the main road through the industrial estate - is often lined with parked cars during the day. But some drivers park too close to junctions which mean articulated lorries visiting the site get stuck for hours.

Last week police, council bosses and office workers agreed to meet but the meeting was cancelled because an officer was ill. On Thursday, though, Inspector Craige Arterton said officials had to find a solution soon.

"It's not such a problem for us as police, but it's more of a concern for something like an ambulance if they need to get there," he said.

This week details of a rescheduled meeting were unavailable.

Residents believe council officials want to paint double yellow lines along one side of Haig Road. But last week Cheshire County Council's highways expert Rob Cramer said he would prefer to ban cars parking only near problem junctions.

"It would clear one or two spots," he said. "If they could identify that there were only two or three places I would be prepared to go down and listen to suggestions."
