AN outstanding win has given Penketh Legion B hope of avoiding relegation from Warrington Snooker League Division Two.
Legion's 7-0 victory over form team Deaf Social A was the result of the night, although leaders GESM lost 4-3 at Penketh Cons B.
Despite the defeat GESM increased their lead to four points because GTL B lost 5-2 at home to Stockton Heath B, which allowed British Rail B to join them in second after they won 4-3 against Culcheth Legion.
Division Three leaders GTBL A are seven points clear at the top after winning 5-2 at Monk C.
Second-placed St Benedicts did themselves no favours by only managing a 4-3 win against Monk D, while third-placed Irlam Steel lost further ground when sinking 4-3 at home to Kings Club C.
The Division One title race now looks to be a fight between three teams.
Leaders Newton Social kept their two-point lead with a 5-2 win at Alford A, with second-placed Woolston C winning at Winwick Social 5-2.
At the other end of the table Dave Newton had a 52 break for the second week running, with Paul Gleave chipping in with a 40 break, as Snookers A took a big step to avoiding the drop thanks to a 7-0 hammering of bottom club Alford B.
