Archer arrows to top 20 finish

BIRCHWOOD professional golfer Phil Archer secured one of the best results of his career when he finished tied 18th at the Mayback Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

An opening round of 72 left him in the middle of the pack but a sensational six under par round of 66 catapulted him towards the front before he improved his position further with a final round of 68, in a tournament that was reduced to three rounds because of thunderstorms in the area.

His joint 18th finish was his second best of the 2006 PGA European Tour and earned him more than £8,000, as well as moving him back to 77th in the Order of Merit.

Archer is currently enjoying a break at home but is set to compete in the Singapore Masters between March 9 and March 12 before moving on to the TCL Classic on Hainan Island in China a week later.
