Dolphins juniors make a splash

THREE junior members of Warrington Dolphins Long Distance Swimming Club secured victories at the Liverpool Age Group Championships.

Rachel Byrne triumphed in the 12-year 100m and 200m backstroke races, Charlotte Dickinson finished first in the 11-year 100m and 200m backstroke, while Alison Lydon won the 13-year 400m individual medley.

The victories put the trio in contention to make the Liverpool team that will compete in the inter-district competition later in the year.

Rowles' bowls win

PETER Rowles was the winner of Sunday's Warrington Public Parks' Bowls League winter sweep at Bank Park.

The Victoria Park hotshot defeated Lovely Lane's Tony Smith 21-18 in the final.

Sue Bates, who is leading the winter sweep merit table, was a semi-finalist along with St Elphins clubmate Kenny Pilkington.

Another sweep will take place at Bank Park on Sunday at 9.30am. To enter for a fee of £3 contact Kenny on 49168.

Ray of inspiration

FOUR chalks separated Ray Nevins and Damien Morrison in Sunday's Richmonds winter sweep final.

Nevins, of St Oswalds, beat his King and Queen opponent 21-17.

The defeated semi finalists were Clive Jesson, of Grappenhall Ex-Servicemans, and Larry Wells, of King and Queen.

Agile Manning

GREAT Sankey gymnast Phil Manning won gold at Warrington Gymnastics Club's boys over eights novice competition.

The 11-year-old impressed in the floor and vault disciplines, as did nine-year-old Mikey Manning, who took the silver medal.

Boxing night

WARRINGTON'S Phoenix Olympic Boxing Centre will stage a fight night at Penketh and Sankey Conservatives Club on March 2, starting at 8pm.

Entry to the event will be £8 for adults and £5 for concessions.
