Why are we waiting?

HIGHWAYS work due to be carried out two years ago near the operations centre at the Anderton Boat Lift has still not been completed.

But after planners sent letters to British Waterways and Cheshire County Council demanding action, some progress towards a resolution has been made.

Now the highways authority has recommended building a priority area at the Marbury Road/Bridge Farm Road junction.

This involves new geometry, roadside kerbing, surfacing and removal of the grassed triangle at the centre of the existing layout.

Officers from British Waterways have indicated there is no allocation within the current financial year for the works to be done.

A report from planners said: "Given that it is not considered appropriate to take enforcement action, continued pressure should be applied to both British Waterways and Cheshire Highways."
