New health centre is way forward

THE new Oakwood Medical Centre in Barnton will be opening its doors to patients from 8.30am on Monday.

Construction of the health centre on Broadway began in the spring of 2005. It has been built on the old memorial hall site

The Primary Care Trust, GP practice, and Barnton residents were consulted before the project began.

It will bring together the GP practice and community services, such as health visitors and district nurses, as well as introducing new services such as phlebotomy and physiotherapy.

Dr Rob Chapman, lead GP at Oakwood Medical Centre, said: "Although we have enjoyed practising at Oakwood Lane, the practice had outgrown the building.

"With this fine new medical centre, we can offer our patients a greater choice and additional services from state-of-the-art premises.

"We feel our patients will be delighted with the new Oakwood Medical Centre and we look forward to serving the community of Barnton for many years to come."

Mike Pyrah, chief executive of Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust said: "This new facility will enable the local community to access first class family health services close to their homes.

"I would like to thank the local community for their input, support and co-operation during the planning of the new practice."
