Shoplifters could face store ban

CONGLETON police have issued a warning to shoplifters that they will be caught and brought before the courts.

The warning comes after a 17-year-old local youth was arrested for numerous alleged offences of shoplifting.

A decision is now to be made by the Congleton Shopwatch scheme whether the youth and other individuals should be banned from all 63 shops participating in the scheme.

The youth has been charged with seven offences of shoplifting, and has been bailed to a youth court next month.

"Shoplifters will be monitored by members of the Congleton Shopwatch scheme," said PC Dave Newton from the Congleton Community Action Team.

"This could result in bans being made, which will stop them from entering any of the shops and businesses in the area."

He added that the police and Dane Housing were working together to respond to reports of nuisance neighbours.

"This could result in tenants being served with notice of eviction should they continue to cause anti-social behaviour and breach their tenancy agreements," he said.
