Teenage burglar gets final warning

CLOSED circuit cameras helped to trap a burglar breaking into a shop in Biddulph.

A local resident reported a broken window and possible burglary just before 1am last Tuesday.

CCTV cameras were trained on Povey's oatcakes shop during a raid on the premises, and helped police identify an offender leaving the scene.

As a result a 17-year-old youth from Biddulph was arrested for burglary, and admitted the offence.

The youth was given a final warning, and also admitted a further burglary at the same premises at the end of last year.

"This is an excellent result," said Cllr Brian Whittaker, district council cabinet member for community safety.

"It came about as a result of the close partnership working between the CCTV control room operators and the police."
