Takeaway plan is put on hold

PLANNING chiefs are demanding more information on the effects a proposed takeaway will have on an historic part of Nantwich before they decide if the application should be approved.

Councillors deferred their decision on whether to extend the takeaway area out of the centre of town and into residential Welsh Row at last week's development control committee meeting while they await reports from police and highways officials.

Police will look at whether the plans, submitted by Mr T Tang, could encourage more late-night problems with litter and nuisance in the area around Welsh Row.

And highways engineers will report on any potential problems with customer parking.

Cllr Arthur Moran said: "Residents are already complaining that drivers park on double yellow lines outside their houses and if a takeaway is opened it could get worse."

The building lies within Nantwich Conservation Area and Nantwich Civic Society have raised objections that a takeaway would alter the character of the area.

They are also questioning the need for a takeaway in this location as the road has many food outlets closer to the town centre.

More than 50 local people have registered objections against the proposals and the Welsh Row Residents Committee fears the cooking equipment will produce noise and fumes.

A decision on the proposal is expected next month.
