RESIDENTS of a Nantwich street are celebrating planning chiefs' refusal to allow a homeowner to build another property in his garden.
Local councillors and residents feared that if building was allowed to go ahead it would set a precedent for 'cramming' more houses into existing gardens.
Many felt this would be out of character with the area, and planning bosses, who rejected the application at last week's development control committee meeting, agreed.
Their report stated: "The proposed detached dwelling would sit uncomfortably between the existing semi-detached properties and would fail to respect the pattern and character of the surrounding development."
Local councillor Arthur Moran described the plans as 'a classic example of over crowding' and said he was delighted they had been rejected.
He added: "There just wasn't room, it would have been crammed in and spoilt the whole area.
"This shows decision makers do take into account residents' views.
"We don't want every spare bit of land built on, there is already enough development in the town."
