De Witt decision

DOZENS of jobs are set to go at a toothpaste manufacturers in Runcorn.

Up to 42 workers will be given the brush off at De Witt after bosses decided to relocate manufacturing to a sister company in Sweden.

The Manor Park-based company made the decision after a statutory 30 day consultation process in November overran.

A De Witt employee told the World, when we requested a comment, that all the directors had gone out for the afternoon and could not be contacted.

However, she did confirm that talks had finished and that manufacturing would go.

Runcorn MP Mike Hall blasted the decision to transfer jobs abroad.

"I am extremely disappointed," he said. "People doing these jobs for years have devoted a lot of time and hard work to De Witt and have been very poorly dealt with."

"This a very serious blow. I don't think the case has yet been made why Runcorn jobs must be transferred abroad."

De Witt is likely to make the transfer of production to Swedish company CCS this summer.

Back in November managing director Paul Holbrook said: "With deep regret we announce the proposed closure of our manufacturing bases in Runcorn."
