It Asda be a protest

GREENPEACE volunteers protested at Asda Cockhedge in a national campaign about sustainable fishing.

They handed out leaflets and asked people to sign petitions after the company came bottom in a Greenpeace survey of fishing practices, including the use of deep sea trawlers and overfishing.

After protests around the country, including the occupation of Asda HQ's roof in Leeds, Asda agreed to talk to the protestors.

Mike Jackson, of Warrington Greenpeace, said: "The last demonstration was in Warrington at the beginning of January, then during the week members went to Asda's head office, after which Asda agreed to remove some species from the shelves and to sit down and talk to Greenpeace."

Warrington Greenpeace meets on the first Monday of the month in the back room of the Bulls Head, Church Street at 8pm.
